ChinaVis 2022 Doctoral Colloquium

We are soliciting submissions to the doctoral colloquium (DC) for ChinaVis 2022. The doctoral colloquium is an academic exchange platform for Ph.D. students to facilitate feedback from leading senior visualization researchers. At the colloquium, Ph.D. students will present their proposed dissertation work, discuss the validity of their problem and the efficacy of their approach with expert researchers, and receive helpful feedback and fresh perspectives on their research topics and possible career paths. The colloquium will provide the opportunity for students to interact closely with expert researchers in their field. The colloquium welcomes Ph.D. students who are in the process of formulating their dissertation topic or who have just formulated a dissertation topic. The expert panelists will be invited according to the research direction of accepted applicants.


Submissions

All research topics suitable for ChinaVis paper submission are appropriate for the doctoral colloquium. Applicants should submit:

1) A summary of their thesis research

The structure of the summary should follow the format used by most universities for a thesis proposal, including but not limited to an introduction, a related work section, preliminary methods, plan of research, proposed work, and questions for the panel. Please distinguish clearly between work that has already been accomplished and that which remains to be completed. The summary of up to four pages should follow the formatting guidelines of the IEEE VGTC template (http://junctionpublishing.org/vgtc/Tasks/camera_tvcg.html) and have a single author - the student submitting the entry.

2) A short, signed statement from the student’s advisor

The statement should indicate that the student’s advisor supports the student’s attendance at the colloquium and confirms that the student is in a good position to benefit from participating. The statement should include information about the stage of the Ph.D. project and expected date of completion. The statement should be appended to the student submission pdf file.

Notes for Applicants

1) Please submit your application to chinavisdc@163.com.

2) Student submissions will be peer-reviewed, and selections will be made based on their contribution to the colloquium goals, strength of research direction, etc.

3) Accepted DC student participants will receive discounted ChinaVis registration (80%).

4) The colloquium will consist of student presentations, discussions with the expert panelists, etc.

5) Accepted submissions will be not published online, and only printed for the expert panelists at the colloquium.

6) Only accepted applicants will be allowed to participate in the colloquium as well as other related events, and each participated applicant will receive a certificate.
